This wedding marked the end of a VERY full multi-wedding weekend! In fact, it was only my second double-header ever!
Lindsay and I met up that morning and shot
Wayne and Megan’s wedding together, then drove to Sugar Land to shoot Charlene and David’s wedding that night!! If I were to be judging by their
engagement session, I’d have told you long ago that this wedding day was going to be amazing!! And it did not disappoint! The wedding party (all 80-or-so of them!

) was amazing and a blast to party with, and Charlene and David were relaxed and having a great time all day! Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day. Enjoy!
peace.

Representin’…

Gentlemen — love the tails!

Lindsay hung with Charlene most of the day and rocked some killer “getting ready” stuff!

Waah-waah-woo!

Linds also snagged some amazing moments during the ceremony!

St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land.

See what I mean?!?

Very nice!

After the ceremony we headed to the Marriott, Town Center for an amazing reception! David and Charlene shared a first dance…

And the belly dancers performed the second dance! Awesome!

I’ll end with some ring fun. I’m pretty sure this is the first time one of my ring shots has included a dead animal. I kinda dig it, though…

I love shooting in Houston. It has such an eclectic mix of modern, industrial, professional, recreational, weathered, and natural scenery everywhere you look. And when clients ask us where we recommend for a session, it’s great because we have many options to choose from. And Houston is so big that you could shoot a different spot every day for a month with no repeats!
Recently Jasmine Star shared some great thoughts on session location selection on her blog. She was asked how she chooses the locations of her shoots. She responded “…my clients choose their locations … most of my brides follow my blog and know how important a fabulous environment is, so they take their jobs quite seriously!
Once I arrive at a location, I scope out the site and get ideas. When the couple arrives for the shoot, we work together in choosing spots and finding the best light!”
Lisa and I bounced a few e-mails back and forth the week before her shoot and discussed just about every area of downtown Houston! We liked some elements of *this* part of town, but other elements of *that* part of town. We finally landed on a spot that would make for an *easy* shoot and called it a day.
But the next day Lisa called back. And I’m so glad she did!
She explained that she wanted her session to reflect her and Brad, and the area we landed on had no special significance to them. We talked about it and decided on a different part of town that was near their home, near the places they spend time, and near friends and family they love. We had an amazing shoot; the whole time Lisa and Brad pointing out buildings and restaurants to me and recalling stories from their youth or giving a mini-history of the area. It was awesome! We wrapped our shoot up at the wine bar where we had begun shooting, confident that we had captured their love story in their “stomping grounds”. I’m thrilled with what we came back with! Here’s a sampling of our fun. Enjoy!
peace.

While we were shooting it started raining lightly, so we ducked inside this vacant building. It didn’t take us long to know that we weren’t in there alone! But the “tenants” were friendly. We snapped off a couple of frames, like the one below, then headed back out into the drizzle.

Lisa and Brad — Thanks for making this shoot your own! I can’t wait until June!

There’s not really a name for this shoot. It didn’t really have a purpose, except just for fun and creating cool images. It just, kinda … whatever.
That works. Chelsea’s “Whatever” Shoot.
Just because.
Nette and I first met Chelsea at her sister’s amazing Mexico wedding last November. We could tell right off that we would become fast friends! Since then we have connected electronically pretty regularly, thanks to the wonder that is FaceBook; but not often enough in real life. So we decided to remedy that. Nette and I met up with Chelsea and her man Sergio downtown for some hang out time and a couple of adult beverages, and while we were there I snapped a couple of frames off. Here’s a taste of all the yummy goodness. And Sergio, feel free to contact the studio if you guys need to schedule an engagement session any time soon!!
peace.

Isn’t she adorable?!?

A fave…

Love this one…

And this one…

Chels, you’re a rockstar!! We all need to hang again soon!!

Irene and Jason spent months planning their beautiful wedding. All the decisions were made and all the details were set. Everything was ready for their wedding day :: September 13, 2008.
Ike had other ideas.
But it would take more than some silly hurricane to stop Irene and David from seeing all their plans through to completion and tying the knot!!
Scot and I had the pleasure to get to spend this wonderful day with Irene and Jason, and even though it was almost a month later than they had originally planned, it was nonetheless beautiful and intimate and special for all in attendance. Here are some of my favorites from their day. Enjoy!
peace.

Irene is a big fan of all things Disney, and even had custom-beading added to her veil. Anyone recognize the familiar silhouette?

Meanwhile, in the boys’ room… All were huddled around a tiny TV to catch some silly football game.

I love this moment…

I normally don’t spend altogether too much time posting about tosses and whatnot, but you’ve gotta love Jason’s technique!! WINNER!!

Jason and Irene :: We wish the best of luck to you and many blessings throughout your marriage!

Heidi and Drew and I met last week for an early morning engagement session. We traipsed around downtown and enjoyed some great conversation! These two were a blast to be around, and their Aggie/Longhorn dynamic is really hilarious! I can’t wait for their wedding next June at Chateau Polonez.
peace.

Hott!!

Love this…

I love daytime weddings!
Lindsay and I shot Megan and Wayne’s wedding a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time with them on their beautiful day!! They were married in the Memorial area with an intimate reception at Ouise’s Table near the Galleria. The closest of their family and friends celebrated with them and everyone had a wonderful time. Here are some of my faves from their day. Enjoy!
peace.

The beautiful bride…

And her expectant groom…

Wayne is a musician and has enjoyed a decades-long career in the music industry, so at the reception (and on Megan’s request) he serenaded her with a song he’d written for her.

I TOOOOOOtally dig Wayne’s ring!! (Megan’s isn’t half-bad, either!!)

Wayne and Megan, it was an absolute joy to be a part of your wedding day! We wish you the very best!

I love Saturdays.
Most weekends it means that I get to hang out with amazing people on the most exciting and wonderful day of their lives! Everyone is beautiful, friends and family are all around, and in most cases, the adult beverages are flowing!! It makes “working” on the weekends TOTALLY worth it!
But the true highlight of my Saturdays happens at 9 am. About half-past-8 we load up the kids and drive down to Iron Cross for the kids’ gymnastics classes. I’m telling you — you have not LIVED until you’ve watched a class full of 3-4-year-olds do gymnastics!! It’s amazing!! And my kid is the funniest! (I say that because he is the most uncoordinated…
) It’s so awesome! They have a blast in class and we have a blast watching them!
The coaches and staff there are amazing! They have so much fun with the kids and are so good at what they do! We try and bring them some sort of chocolaty-coffee-frozen-blended-wonderfulness every week just to tell them how great we think they are! (Bribery is my favorite!!)
Check these — Enjoy!
peace.

Jude is scared of the beam. It’s reeeeeeeallly funny!!

This is Coach James. He pretty much rocks.

Tobi is scared of nothing! (Which is, coincidentally, ALSO very funny!)

This is Coach Jeremy. He, too, pretty much rocks.

Tobi solo-rockin’ the low beam…

Jude’s favorite apparatus!

Or maybe this is Jude’s favorite apparatus…

Kim and Todd made the long and arduous journey from the Woodlands out to our side of town a couple of weeks ago for their session. (I joke about the drive because that used to be my commute to work when I first came on full-time. Those were the days!!) We found this great park close by and had a fantastic shoot. These two will be tying it up next June at Fellowship of the Woodlands (a favorite venue). Congrats, guys! Can’t wait to see you in June!
peace.

Scot and I shot Vanessa and Michael’s wedding in Houston last month and then enjoyed a very cool and laid-back reception at Vanessa’s parent’s home in Katy. Vanessa and Michael are actually celebrating their one-month anniversary today! I thought I’d give them a little gift here on the blog! Enjoy!
peace.

The lovely Vanessa

The dapper gents

KILLER sock, fellas!

If we were smarter, 563 would start shooting weddings like this!! It sure would cut down on the weight of our gear bags!!

Yeah!!!

I love what Vanessa and her parents did for the reception! Rather than spend an ungodly sum of money on a reception venue, they spruced up their already-beautiful backyard so that they could include all the details they desired for the day! It came out perfectly!

I LOVED all the colors!!

Scot and I went back and forth on some hott ring lovin’!!

Oh, look! There’s Scottie on the left!! (Sorry, buddy!)

Check out Michael, rockin’ the Cupid Shuffle!!

Congrats, guys!! Thanks for letting 563 have a blast with you on your wedding day!

We bought him a tie.
That’s what started it. We bought him a tie because it was so darned cute, but we didn’t want him to wear it and mess it up before we made some photographs of it. So, as it has hung in his closet for weeks, we decided on a day and locale and found Miss T. something cute to wear as well. She and I headed out to start shooting and Mommy and Mr. J. met us a little later.
Please allow me to interrupt myself here and say that I now know why I don’t specialize in children’s photography!! I have thousands of images of my kids, but this was the first (in a long time) “planned” shoot of them. Parents, if you are considering an on-location shoot of your kids and have found the right person to shoot it, good for you. But, for the love of God — PAY YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER A LOOOOOOOOT OF MONEY!!!!
I have never worked as hard on a shoot in my LIFE!! 300 inebriated wedding guests have NOTHING on two energetic pre-schoolers!!! Don’t get me wrong, we had a blast, but MAN there was some effort spent!
Here are some of my faves from the shoot. There are tons more that I love, but nobody wants to see me flip out my folded-wallet-photo-album here…
Enjoy!
peace.
This first one is quite possibly my favorite Tobi pic ever!!

I swear to all things holy — If I hear ONE thing from Scot or Craig about Apple Bottom Jeans, I WILL come after you…

Another Tobi fave…

And another fave…

Enter :: theJudeMonstah!

One of my favorite Jude photos ever!!

Yeah, that’s right. Those are my kids — the models…

I think he’s trying to make his escape…

Another Jude favorite…

I’ll end this one with Tobi’s “model pose”.

So, a few of you may see these again in Christmas cards and the like. Just act surprised…
