Craig Davis :: studio563 bio picture
  • Welcome to my blog!

Hey there! My name is Craig Davis and I am a photographer from Houston, Texas. I absolutely love what I get to call my "job". I work with some of the coolest clients in the world and consider it a blessing to document special occasions and once of a lifetime moments in peoples lives. As the photographer for studio563 I get to "work" by capturing emotion.

April is my amazingly gorgeous wife as well as the best business partner that anyone could ever ask for. We have a beautiful little girl named Lexi, but you will hear her lovingly referred to as "The Wee One". We also have a little boy on the team as well. His name is Brock and we call him "ManChild". I am extremely blessed and I know that every good and perfect gift I have comes from my loving savior Jesus Christ. Without him nothing in this amazing life of mine would be possible.

Marian & Austin :: Wedding at Briscoe Manor :: Richmond, Tx

Now our “blogstalkers” will remember this couple from their engagement session we shot last fall. This is the wedding of the beautiful Maid Marian and her Knight in shining armor Austin. We met them in the Fall of 2010 and we instantly clicked. You have been an absolute dream to work with and we have loved getting to know you both. Now planning a wedding can be very frustrating due to the fact that you are overwhelmed with options and decisions. Well my hat is off to you Marian and Austin you chose wisely. The event was gorgeous and you had fun!!!!!!! I can’t wait for everyone to see this post…

Ahhhhh the infamous Jimmy Choo need we say more? Thank you Carrie, from Sex in the City, for bringing him into our world.

The flowers were done by the very talented Lisa Tran with Wedding Flowers By Lisa (Blooming Gallery). She does beautiful work with very full floral bouquets.

I have 2 favorite moments in their ceremony: when he  looked at her and when they prayed. Now ladies a man does not have to cry at the alter for him to be blown away. I can almost feel his heart skip a beat when he sees her in this image. When they prayed together it had such a calming effect on the mood of this image. I also love the way he is holding her hands…confident yet gentle.

Boys will be boys and that is just fun to be in a photo-booth.

Craig had an amazing time shooting your wedding and I have loved working with you. Thank you so much for listening to your “gut” and letting us be part of your wonderful day.

Ashley and Javier :: Engagement Session :: Cypress, Tx.

So of course I am thinking about Valentines Day already. I can’t help myself!! So in the spirit of love I thought an engagement session post would be appropriate….especially this one. What girl doesn’t want to have a romantic picnic with the man she is deeply in love with and fortunate enough to call her best friend and fiancé??  So let’s meet Ashley and Javier. Their wedding will be this April and they are planning a beautiful event at Raveneaux Country Club. It is an absolutely gorgeous venue and was a perfect place to also shoot their engagement session.

Ashley and Javier love tea. You could call them connoisseurs; and if you think I am not serious notice the cute yet very real tea pot they brought along with them.

Another fun little fact about this adorable couple is that they are in a Ukulele band. Craig and I of course love this because of our own love for music. I have to admit I was a bit jealous that Craig got to hear them perform for one another. He said they were really good!

I love the way he looks at her and how she responds to him. That’s the good stuff right there……

Ashley and Javier- I can’t wait to see your wedding pictures. I know they will be absolutely thoughtful and intimately sweet just like you are. Craig and I are very excited for you and what you are planning. Hope you enjoyed some of our favorite pics.- April D.

Laura and Chad: Wedding at The Crystal Ballroom :: Houston, Texas

Hmmmmmm words that come to mind are….elegant, chic, thoughtful, romantic, candles, satin, timeless love and relaxed.

Laura and Chad are a very thoughtful couple, but do not necessarily enjoy being in the spotlight. Over the years Craig and I have come to the conclusion that no one is ever just “kind” or “thoughtful” unless it is intentional and at some point it becomes who they are. This is Laura and Chad. They come from families very similar to Craig’s in the sense that they maintain deep meaningful relationships. So naturally it became a large event even though that is not really their personality. Laura said ” I am so grateful that so many people came to celebrate our marriage.”

The amazing Mandy Millen with Every Little Detail Weddings and Events was the coordinator of this event. For those brides who teeter on hiring a coordinator, they are essentially the Coach of the team or Director of the play. It is really hard to enjoy your wedding, and for some planning one,  if you are in charge of handling all of the stress. She is on our short list of favs to work with in the Houston area.

The ceremony and reception were at The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice. Beautiful!

Her dress was gorgeous!!! It is a Lazaro and she purchased it from Weddings By Debbie. They always have an extrodinary  selection.

If you would like to see her Bridal Portraits Click HERE . Absolutely outstanding and so far has been heavily commented on in the wedding industry.

They had many of those “special” moments that brides and families long for and that can only really happen when the couple is relaxed. This one is no exception. This is Laura’s grandmother who she is extremely close to….a simple bracelet is no longer simple when it is from someone you adore.

This is their “first” look …….ooooooo the anticipation.

Then on to signing the ketubah. For those individuals who do not know this is the signing of the marriage agreement and is very important in a Jewish ceremony. In short it is an agreement that outlines the responsibilities and rights of the groom in relation to the bride. In an age where people don’t always take responsibility I love and respect this part of a Jewish wedding!!!!

Darryl & Co. Darryl & Co. Darryl & Co. What can we say?? You always aim to please and go beyond our expectations. Susie’s Cakes did a phenomenal job as well. They really are a top notch bakery!

Laura and Chad took lessons for their first dance and did an amazing job!!!! Ballroom dancing is much harder than it looks and they made it look easy (especially in a wedding dress).

And for my favorite part the romance…….

Hope you enjoyed this entry. I can honestly say this blog post does not do this wedding justice and I would need to post about 30 more images so  you could experience every piece of this wonderful event we had the pleasure to be a part of.

Ashley and Zach::Wedding at Houston Museum of Natural Science:: Houston, Texas

The ceremony started with applause and cheering. The day had come at last and everyone was going to celebrate!!!!

Ashley and Zach did not want to do anything super traditional and I think that really sums up who they are. They are the creative couple who think outside the box and it is coupled with an intoxicating excitement that is very catchy. We love their spirit and absolutely loved working with them.  Craig and I absolutely know great things and adventures are in store for this couple!!!

Her Beautiful Dress was found at the Boutique Bridal Salon Bella-Deur Bridal Boutique. Loved the jacket…espcially with her gorgeous birdcage veil.

Absolutely Love the Cake by Rustika Bakery and Cafe . Very creative and classicly  beautiful. That is very hard incase you didn’t know.

Of Course Brite Star Productions did an amazing job. They are one of the best in Houston and I know many of the Coordinators we work with use them exclusively for uplighting and pin drop lighting (which is all the buzz).

Elizabeth & Darren: Wedding at Bell Tower on 34th: Houston, TX

AMAZING Wedding!!!! First we have to say that the details that Elizabeth and Natalie Dawley with Two Be Wed put together were classic, timeless and absolutely beautiful! Elizabeth and Darren are a dream couple to work with. They worked  hard to get all the right vendors so that they could enjoy their day and never lost site of what was important (their love for each other) in the planning process. The day started at the St. Regis were they got dressed and continued on to The Bell Tower on 34th for the ceremony and reception. This venue has so many options for brides and grooms and lets not forget the fact that Photographically it is a dream for portrait shots because it has so many areas to shoot in!!

The locket on her bouquet was something borrowed from my aunt who then gifted it to Elizabeth the day after the wedding.  It was her great grandmother Daisy’s locket, which holds a picture of her father (who passed away).  It is now being made into a bracelet by J Peace Designs (Jeannine Peace) — she also custom designed the bridesmaid’s jewelry… vintage Swarovksi crystals from NYC. The hankie was actually her baby bonnet. So thoughtful.

The florist was Darryl & Co., but using the word florist is completely understating what they do because flowers and pretty “candelabra’s” is not all they do.

The wedding Favors were done by a company called Olive & Vine. It was small olive oil bottles with custom designed labels. There were 2 flavors: Tuscan Bouquet and Sweet Basil. Very Creative and Unique. Loved it!

The cake was done by the fabulous Cakes By Gina. Now this is April’s favorite Bakery and highly recommends the Italian Cream cake and/or cake balls….mmmmmm yum.

The band was rockin and everyone was on the dance floor having the time of their lives with the awesome band Time Machine.

It was timeless, beautiful and an event they will never forget. Thank you so much for letting us be part of your day. We can’t wait to hear about all the adventures the 2 of you will go on!
